Drug Diversion

MAYSP  provides drug education programming for those 18 years and older cited for possession of less than 15 grams of marijuana or other drugs.

The Drug Diversion Group consists of:

  • One intake meeting
  • Five Group sessions (Each group session will last 1 1/2 – 2 hours. You MUST be on time and must stay for the entire group session)
  • Community service
  • One Exit counseling session

*You will be required to pay the fee for the program at the intake appointment. The fee is 150 (cash) or 160 (credit card).

*We accept cash, credit/debit card, or money orders. We DO NOT accept American Express cards!

MAYSP offers ongoing substance abuse counseling services as indicated, as well as
Drug Testing.
The Diversion Program consists of repeat underage alcohol offenders and other misdemeanor drug offenses. You may schedule according to the following group times/days:

Group Sessions:

Group sessions are held Monday 4:00pm-5:30pm and Thursday 6:00pm-7:30pm. You may select either Monday or Thursday as your group session day based on your schedule. You are expected to be on time and contribute to discussion in a positive manner!

Groups are scheduled on a first-come-first-serve basis. Each group will consist of 8 – 10 people per group. If the group time you choose is filled up, and you are unavailable for any other group sessions during this period, you will need to set your meetings for the next scheduled 5 week group sessions. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for you, but we cannot make exceptions due to agency time limitations. If this requires you to request an extension with the court, it is your responsibility to file for extension, in person, at the Magistrate Court.

*If the office is closed due to weather or other unforeseeable circumstances, it is your responsibility to call and reschedule your session as soon as possible.

MAYSP does NOT have the authority to grant extensions.

For out-of-state/town offenders: Please go to the RESOURCES section of this site and download the appropriate forms (highlighted in blue) to complete. Follow the instructions on the out-of-town instruction sheet.

Other Drug Offenders

NOTE: If you do not complete the 5-week program by not complying with program attendance and homework requirements you will be required to repeat the program within your 6-month probation period, or before your return court date. If you have to repeat the program due to a failed drug test, you will also be required to pay full cost for the second program, which must be paid in full before attending another 6-week group session period.

Group Session Topics:
The program is focused on development of self-awareness and life choices; and will include discussion of various topics in addition to drug information. You are not required to bring anything with you for the first group meeting, but you are required to participate in all group discussions.

If you need to cancel your first group session, please call in advance. Our office number is 304-284-7321. This allows us to give your time slot to another offender!

Community Service:

The Morgantown courts require that community service be done at one of the accepted agencies located downtown . Violators are assigned community service at the intake appointment. First offense violators are required to complete 8 hours of community service and second offense violators are required to complete 10 hours. If two charges occur simultaneously, the completion requirements include 18 hours of community service.

Once you have completed your community service hours you will call the MAYSP office to inform your hours are complete, at which time we will schedule your exit interview if all other requirements are met. You must bring your community service form with you to that first exit interview.
You are not permitted to change your community service assignment without permission from the MAYSP staff.
Community service requirements mandated by the court are to be served downtown only.
